The Components of VDI

As we have previously discussed on our perspective of VDI. VDI or virtual desktop infrastructure is really just the data center elements that enable an organization to have virtual desktops. Usually this entails setting up new storage, networking, servers… in other words, a dedicated data center infrastructure for desktops. The difficult part about this endeavor is that it is multi-discipline.

More and more employees are choosing where they want to work, rather than being assigned a standard workplace location. Specifically, a recent survey conducted by Intelligent Office found that 70% of the employees surveyed work from alternate locations on a regular basis. The study was based on surveys of nearly 1,100 employees and found that more than 50% of employees in California, Texas and Colorado are regularly working outside of their home and traditional office.

Today’s businesses don’t spend all their time thinking about the worst-case scenario. Still, with the number of natural disasters such as hurricanes and wildfires in just the last year alone, many companies are beginning to recognize that living without a disaster recovery plan is truly risky behavior.

Hosting Servers Alone Makes No Sense

GoDaddy recently announced it will “No Longer Offer Cloud Services to Businesses”, as reported in Midsize Insider by Chrissie Klinger. “In the past few months several other companies have also eliminated their cloud products, including Zumodrive and Rackspace.”
